Rowdies Close Out Homestand With Timbers

The Basics:

FC Tampa Bay Rowdies (6-7-5, 5th in USL Conference) vs. Portland Timbers (7-6-5, 3rd in USL Conference)

Saturday, July 31st, 7:30 p.m., George M. Steinbrenner Field

Mainsail Suites Hotel & Conference Center Title Night

This is the second meeting between the teams.

Broadcast Info:

The match will be carried live on www.fctampabay.com.  1010 Sports with Mike Pepper and Winston DuBose will also be broadcasting the game.

What’s at Stake:

After returning to winning ways last weekend with a 2-0 victory over Coastal Cup rivals Miami FC, the Rowdies will look to build momentum for the playoff push.  If the playoffs began today, FC Tampa Bay would qualify for the playoffs by way of the second tiebreaker (goal differential) over the Puerto Rico Islanders.

Last Meeting:

The Rowdies traveled to PGE Park in Portland on June 27th and lost 1-0.  Bright Dike scored the lone goal in the 73rd minute and the Rowdies were unable to score the game-tying goal and rescue a point.  Portland amassed 21 shots in the game to the Rowdies’ eight shots.

Individual Notes:

After serving a one-game suspension (accumulation of yellow cards) last weekend, FC Tampa Bay midfielder Stanley Nyazamba is once again eligible for selection.

Nyazamba faces new competition in the midfield thanks to two new players acquired last week in a trade with the Vancouver Whitecaps.  Jonny Steele and Ricardo Sanchez are both new names on the Rowdies’ roster.  Steele played 90 minutes for FC Tampa Bay against Rochester on Thursday night but did not play on Sunday night due to soreness.  Sanchez is yet to make his Rowdies debut.

Portland midfielder Ryan Pore is still the league points leader.  In 18 games, Pore has recorded 24 points, via 11 goals and two assists.  Pore did not earn a point against the Rowdies on June 27th.

After a clean sheet on Sunday, FC Tampa Bay goalkeeper Daryl Sattler’s goals against average has dropped to 0.875 goals per game.  That number is good for fifth-best among keepers who have played 10 or more games.

Noteworthy Stat:

Ryan Pore has the most goals in the USSF D-II league with 11 so far this season.  Despite taking the most shots in the league with 245, the rest of the Timbers’ roster has only contributed six goals.  The 17 goal total is tied with Crystal Palace Baltimore for second-fewest in the league.  With 245 shots and 17 goals, the Timbers are inefficiently scoring one goal every 14.4 shots.  By contrast, the Rowdies have taken 170 shots (fourth-lowest) and scored 21 goals (fourth-best).  That equates to a much more efficient one goal for every eight shots.
