Rowdies Take On League Leaders Austin

The Basics:
FC Tampa Bay Rowdies (6-7-6, 5th in USL Conference) vs. Austin Aztex (11-2-5, 1st in USL Conference, 1st in USSF D-2)

Saturday, August 7th, 2010: 8:30 p.m. ET

House Park, Austin, Texas

This is the third meeting between the teams this season, with the first two matches both ending in draws.

Broadcast Info:
The match will be carried live on www.fctampabay.com.

What’s at Stake:
This is the first match of a difficult three-game road trip for the Rowdies against regional rivals.  The Aztex are seven points clear of Vancouver at the top of the USSF D-2 standings.  If the season were to end today, the Rowdies and Aztex would be paired against each other in the first round of the playoffs.

Previous Meetings:
FC Tampa Bay and Austin have played out two exciting draws already this season.  The Aztex were the visitors when FC Tampa Bay played its first home game on May 8th in front of a sellout crowd.  An 86th minute goal from Jeremy Christie secured a 2-2 draw.  Just 11 days later in Austin, an 88th minute free kick goal from Gordon Kljestan clinched a 3-3 draw.

Individual Notes:
This match will feature some of the league’s best goal scorers.  After two goals in two games, Aaron King has established himself as the Rowdies’ top scorer with six goals.  He has also moved up to fourth in the league goal standings.

Aztex forwards Max Griffin and Jamie Watson are tied with King with six goals.  Forward Eddie Johnson is second-best in the league with nine goals.  Those three players have combined for 21 goals, two less than the Vancouver Whitecaps, who have the second-most goals in the league, behind Austin’s league-best 33.

Both first-choice goalkeepers have been excellent for their teams so far this season.  Rowdies goalkeeper Daryl Sattler has a goals against average of 0.941 this season, just slightly better than Aztex keeper Miguel Gallardo’s 0.944 goals against average.

Noteworthy Stat:
The 3-3 draw on May 19th was the highest scoring game for both teams this season.  Only three teams have scored more than one goal against the Aztex this season.  The Rowdies, Vancouver Whitecaps and Rochester Rhinos have all scored twice against Austin this year.  The Rowdies are the only team to have scored three times.
